A Guide for Common Status Ailments

From TalonRO Wiki

Author's Notes: Can't really claim this guide is purely mine, as I ripped half off iROwiki and Playtester's guide in RMS, so credits goes to them. I added stuff like pictures, some comments, in-game findings, as well as TalonRO's custom items that is usable to resist, though. Anyway, here goes.

Introduction

For chance, 1000 means 100%, 100 is 10%, etc. This is the number you'll get from an item's script and add it to the formula directly for base chance.

While duration is written in milliseconds, so 1000 = 1 second.

Generally, there are 2 ways to get an immunity against status ailments, which are :

-Full resistance, or the "true" immunity

-Duration = 0, or the "pseudo" immunity

Note that on almost all cases, true immunity is only achievable when the target's base level is higher, equal, or only very slightly lower than source's base level. The only exception is on confusion's formula, where it's reversed and true immunity is only achievable when the target's base level is lower than source's base level.

Additionally, that resistance from items and the formula DOES NOT STACK. As such, having 80 vit (supposed 80% stun resistance from formula) and a stalactic golem headgear (20% stun resistance) will not give you 100% stun resistance.

Also, there's a "bug" with eAthena which gives characters base 3% resistance against status, as such, for achieving true immunity, 97% resistance is enough instead of 100%.

When a character is under immobilizing status, it's impossible to inflict another immobilize inducing debuffs, and this means : you can't perma stun/freeze/stone curse/sleep someone, as there will always be at least that 0,xxx second before the next debuffs applies.

Stone Curse

- Chance = BaseChance - BaseChance * tarMDEFItem / 100 + srcBaseLevel - tarBaseLevel - tarLuk

- Duration is always 20000ms = 20 seconds (second phase)

As you can see, the duration of stone curse is inreducible, it will always be 20,000 ms = 20 seconds, no matter what sources the stone curse is from (Stone Curse, Earthen Bow, Flame Skull Card). The chance, though, is reducible, so the option of getting immunity through true immunity is available. Also, the reduction from Luk is a linear reduction, and as such it has a huge impact on lower base chances. This will be shown later.

Effects

There's 2 stage of this status; first stage when the character could move and use items, but unable to attack or cast skill, proceeding to second stage where it's impossible to move, attack, pick up items, use skill, sitting, force disconnection, and use item.

  • If enemy attacks you, you will always get hit (provided the damage isnt missed due to defense/elemental modifier).
  • If enemy attacks you, they will have 2x CRIT chance with their attack.
  • Ignores Steal (for monster) and Lex Aeterna.

How to recover?

  • Getting hit automatically cancels the effect.
  • Dispell removes this ailment.
  • Mercenary's skill Regain can undo the effect.
  • Priest's skill Recovery undo the effect at any stages.
  • Acolyte's skill Blessing cures the effect at second stage.

  • 97 hard MDEF gives true immunity.
  • Evil Druid Card grants elemental immunity.
  • Medusa Card grants immunity.
  • Evil Snake Lord increases resistance by 50%.
  • Gemini-S58 Card increases resistance by 50% if the user has 80 or more base VIT.

Frozen/Freeze

- Chance = BaseChance - BaseChance * tarMDEFItem / 100 + srcBaseLevel - tarBaseLevel - tarLuk

- Duration = BaseDuration - BaseDuration * tarMDEFItem / 100 + 10 * srcLuk

- Default base duration = 12000ms = 12 seconds

The chance formula is the same as for stone curse, resulting in achieving both status' true immunity in 97 hard MDEF. In the other hand, the duration is reducible, although an in-game test prove that pseudo immunity is almost impossible - you'll still get frozen for 0,xx seconds. Another interesting fact, the duration is unreducible by the target's Luk unlike most status ailments, yet the duration is increased by the source's Luk. In other words, a Wizard/Bard with high Luk can make you freeze longer. The amount is pretty negligible, though (at 100 Luk it will only be 1 second longer). Another thing to note is the strong nature of Luk on lower base chances, where just 10 Luk is enough to resist the self-freeze from Ice Falchion (10 base chance).

Effects

  • All DEF contributed by items reduced by 50%.
  • Monsters Hard-DEF and Soft-DEF is reduced by 50% (round up).
  • Any flee will be negated.
  • If enemy attacks you, you will always get hit (provided the damage isnt missed due to defense/elemental modifier).
  • Increases your Hard-MDEF by 25%.
  • Ignores Steal, Lex Aeterna, Wizard's skill - Storm Gust, Ninja's skill - Snow Flake Draft.
  • Impossible to move, attack, pick up items, skill usage, sitting, force disconnection, and item usage.
  • Armor attribute becomes "Water 1". (175% damage from Wind based attacks, 25% damage from Water, 50% damage from Fire).

  • Chullos[1] increases resistance by 10%.
  • Tidung[1] increases resistance by 10%.

Sleep

- Chance = BaseChance - BaseChance * tarInt / 100 + srcBaseLevel - tarBaseLevel - tarLuk

- Duration = BaseDuration - BaseDuration * tarInt / 100 - 10 * tarLuk

- Default duration: 30000ms = 30 seconds

Due to the nature of Luk's high effect on low base chances, you can perfectly resist Alice Doll's self-sleep with 10 Luk.

  • Bone Head[1] increases resistance by 5%.

Curse

- Chance = BaseChance - BaseChance * tarLuk / 100 + srcBaseLevel - tarLuk

- Duration = BaseDuration - BaseDuration * tarVit / 100 - 10 * tarLuk

- Default duration: 30000ms = 30 seconds

If you have 0 Luk, you are immune to curse. Since curse originally reduces total LUK to 0, this means you can't perma curse a target.

Curse is hard to resist, mainly due to the fact that the stat to resist it is LUK, as well as how the source's base level will increase base chance. This is particularly relevant in using Muramasa (10 base chance = 0,1%) or Goddess of Fortune's Cursed Brooch (50 base chance = 0,5%). At level 99, this chance will be increased by 99 = 0,99%, resulting in 1,09% chance of cursing yourself when using Muramasa (11x original chance) or 1,54% chance when using Goddess of Fortune's Cursed Brooch (3x original chance).

Effects

  • Reduce your ATK by 25%.
  • LUK becomes 0.
  • Drastically Reduces your Movement Speed.

Blind

- Chance = BaseChance - BaseChance * (tarInt + tarVit) / 200 + srcBaseLevel - tarBaseLevel - tarLuk

- Duration = BaseDuration - BaseDuration * (tarInt + tarVit) / 200 - 10 * tarLuk

- Default duration: 30000ms = 30 seconds

Effects

  • Reduce your HIT and FLEE rate by 25%.
  • Graphically reduces range of your visibility.

Poison and Heavy Poison

- Chance = BaseChance - BaseChance * tarVit / 100 + srcBaseLevel - tarBaseLevel - tarLuk

- Duration against monsters: 30000 - 20000 * tarVit / 100

- Duration against players: 60000 - 45000 * tarVit / 100 - 100 * tarLuk

Resistance is similar to stun, silence and bleeding, however duration works a bit differently. Poison duration on monster is 30000ms (30 seconds) which can be reduced via VIT to 10000ms (10 seconds). For players the duration is 60000ms (60 seconds) which can be reduced via VIT to 15000ms (15 seconds), but can be reduced again by LUK (1 LUK = 0,1 second less duration).

Effects

  • Soft DEF is reduced by 25%.
  • If HP is over 25%, character will lose 1.5% + 2 HP of your max HP every second.
  • Natural SP Regeneration is disabled.

How to recover?

  • Green Herb, Green Potion, Panacea, Royal Jelly, Thief's skill - Detoxify can undo the effect.
  • Priest's Slow Poison prevents damage taken from poison and restores sp regeneration, but does not cure the reduced DEF effect. It is a very rarely used counter.
  • If HP is lower than 25%, poison will be automatically removed.
  • Dispell removes this ailment.
  • Mercenary's skill Recuperate can undo the effect.

How to resist?

  • 97 VIT gives true immunity.
  • Ghoul Card increases resistance by 20%.
  • Eye of Dullahan grants immunity.
  • Rudra Bow increases resistance by 50%.
  • Drooping Poison Spore increases resistance by 30%.
  • Gas Mask increases resistance by 30%.
  • Oxygen Mask increases resistance by 20%.
  • Plant Stem in Mouth increases resistance by 20%.

Confusion/Chaos

- Chance = BaseChance - BaseChance * (tarStr + tarInt) / 200 - srcBaseLevel + tarBaseLevel + tarLuk

- Duration = BaseDuration - BaseDuration * (tarStr + tarInt) / 200 - 10 * tarLuk

- Default duration: 30000ms = 30 seconds

The formula is the weirdest one of all. First, the source's and target's base level position is reversed compared to other status ailment's formula. Second, target's LUK increases the chance instead of decreasing it unlike other status ailment's formula. As such, it is very hard to perfectly resist confusion. Achieving pseudo immunity is still possible, though.

Effects

  • Causes the character to move into unintended directions when trying to navigate.
  • When the character is afflicted with this status ailment, there will be a /? emoticon shown over their head.

How to recover?

  • Getting hit automatically cancels the effect.
  • Acolyte's skill - Cure, Panacea, Royal Jelly can undo the effect.
  • Dispell removes this ailment.
  • Mercenary's skill Mental Cure can undo the effect.

  • Giearth Card grants immunity.
  • Evil Snake Lord Card increases resistance by 50%.
  • Wootan Shooter Card increases resistance by 20%.
  • Rudra Bow increases resistance by 50%.
  • Mini Tree increases resistance by 20%.
  • Star Goggle increases resistance by 15%.

Fun Facts

  • One of the buff received from Gospel will remove any status ailments. Another different gospel buff which gives immunity to any status ailments for 60 seconds will also remove any status ailments on character.
  • When a Paladin cast Gospel, any kind of buff/debuff is removed, including all status ailments, provided the paladin is able to cast it (unable to cast when frozen/stoned, for example).
  • Dispell will remove ALL status ailments.
  • When a character is under a status that will break if hit (frozen etc.) and is devoted, hitting the character will not break the status ailment.
