TalonRO's Battleground is designed to test the abilities of players in a team-style battle as they compete with one another for honor, victory, and prizes! The objective of Battlegrounds is to compete toward set objectives in each round mode in order to win against their opposing team in a PVP-style battle using War of Emperium mechanics. This guide will take you through the basic mechanics of TalonRO's Battleground System, including how to register, match gameplay, awarding of coins, and how coins may be redeemed for Battlegrounds prizes. Important Rules and Concepts

Before beginning Battlegrounds, there are a few important concepts and rules that you should be familiar with prior to match play on TalonRO. Several key differences make Battlegrounds on TalonRO unique, and so it is important to be familiar with them prior to playing. Although the actual mechanics of Battlegrounds have largely remained unchanged from their original versions, there are several changes with respect to who can play, how you can heal yourself during play, and how to collect rewards after a Battlegrounds match. These details are listed in the below sections:

Play Restrictions

Only one person per Forum Account may participate in the Battlegrounds at any given time. This means that multiple players may connect simultaneously from the same IP address so long as they do not share a forum account. Any attempts to bypass this restriction will carry severe penalties, up to and including a ban from TalonRO. If there are any questions about this, please contact a member of the Game Master staff. So long as you're following the forum account rule of having exactly ONE forum account per person (no sharing, and only ONE account maximum per person), then everyone should be able to participate in the battlegrounds at a time without further restriction. If you're in a situation which violates the one-account-per-person rule in any way, this is super illegal, and may get you banned from TalonRO if not fixed immediately. Submit a support ticket if this is the case.

Requirement base level 80+

As for a PvP environment, we want to make sure that you are strong enough to battle the other warriors, so you will need at least base level 80 to compete in the matches, that will simply make a fair competition to every team and ensures that your experience will me maxed out.

AFK Rules and Conditions

Because Battlegrounds is meant to be played in a rapid and fast style of play, all players who are AFK from their client for more than one minute (60 seconds) will be removed from the Battlegrounds Arena. Furthermore, if you leave BG early by DCing, you will be given a 10 minute cooldown. This system helps to prevent anyone from entering Battlegrounds with the intention to simply collect Valor or Bravery Coins. Any attempts to bypass this restriction will carry severe penalties, up to and including a ban from TalonRO. If there are any questions about this, please contact a member of the Game Master staff. Use the command @reportafk for players who appear to be AFK during a BG match, which would otherwise hold up gameplay.

Rules on fair play

Battlegrounds is intended to be a challenging and interactive system of team play. Because Battlegrounds is also a reward-based event, any cases where players are knowingly exploiting the use of turns with the purpose of gaining coins faster will be treated as a serious offense. Accordingly, you are not allowed to take turns in winning or just losing on purpose so that the other team can farm coins faster. If you or others are caught doing so (by either a player report or via a GM patrolling the game), severe punishments may be inflicted.

Leaving/Disconnecting ongoing match

The matches are very fast and all the team members are really important, so if you leave an ongoing match, you will have a 10 minutes cool down before rejoining another round. That makes fair to the team whose player left and keeps the rounds reasonable balanced.

Healing Item Restrictions

In TalonRO Battlegrounds, you are limited to the use of two items to heal yourself with: the BG Red Potion and the BG Blue Potion. Each of these will function in a manner similar to their normal counterparts. BG Red Potions will heal between 20%-30% of your total HP, while BG Blue Potions will heal 40%-50% of your SP. The section below on BG Healing Items will cover this concept in greater detail. Also you will be awarded with Green Pottions and other supplies depending on your class (such as: ASPD Potion, Blue/Red/Yellow Gems, Cobwebs, AD/FCP Bottles).
These supplies (amounts dependable by class) will be given to you at zero cost once you have entered the Battlegrounds and cannot be used outside of it (And you will be able to restock these items while in battle). Once in a Battlegrounds match, the use of all other healing items will be restricted. Other skills which can heal you, such a Heal, Potion Pitcher, Sanctuary, etc. will all be permitted as they are normally within WoE mechanics.

Reward Item Parameters

Once you have completed a Battlegrounds match you will for sure be rewards regardless of winning. Valor Coins are given during in wins, losses, and ties – with amounts differing based on which team won / lost / tied. Glory Coins are given only to teams who win a match. These coins are your way of purchasing the amazing new revamped new Battleground gears!

There are several steps to playing Battlegrounds, and the process is fairly straightforward and simple. The following sections will take you through each step of the Battleground world in detail to ensure that you have all the information needed. Each mode of Battlegrounds is unique and features very distinct objectives, making both rounds very different from one another. For an in-depth walkthrough of each mode, please read on about modes, maps, and methods of TalonRO's Battlegrounds.

Let's now walkthrough each of the steps in the Battlegrounds World, including the arena lobby, items, and more.

Entering Battlegrounds

To begin playing in Battlegrounds, you will need to register in the Battlegrounds Queuing System by using the Battle Recruiter NPC in the Battlegrounds Arena Ready Room.

  1. You can also go inside manually by talking to the Warp Girl and choose the PvP option and then Battlegrounds [Vanilla].

Battlegrounds Arena Ready Room

Battlegrounds Arena Ready Room is the hub of all of the action on Battlegrounds. From here, you will be stay conveniently prior to participating in Battlegrounds, Battle Recruiter to join the ongoing match, using Kafra Storage, weapons repairs, and coins items shop. The map below indicates where you will find each NPC in the Battlegrounds Arena Ready Room:

  • Teleporter: This NPC will take you out of the Battlegrounds Arena Room.
  • Kafra: Just like a normal Kafra Agent, she will be able to access your storage.
  • Doctor: Dr. Megreth will take care of you.
  • Repairman: For your convenience of repairing before or after a match.
  • Refiner: To try your luck upgrading the brand new items if you will.
  • Erundek: The main prize distribution NPC. He will redeem your Valor or Glorious Coins for various prizes, including special weapons, armors, and Upgrade Bg Supplies consumable items.
  • Prince Croix and General Guillaume: Will tell you the story behind this wonderful tale.

The Battleground Story

In the story of Battlegrounds, two princes - Prince Croix and General Guillaume - are fighting for control of the throne of the Maroll Dukedom, a provincial region within the Rune-Midgard Kingdom. Due to the illness of their Duke, Marcel Marollo VII, the House of Marollo has decided their either Guillaume or Croix shall ascend to the seat of the dukedom based upon which side reigns victorious.

Placed into bitter war with one another, each side is looking to recruit adventurers to their side to fight under their houses. You will be randomly assigned to which side you will be fighting for in Battlegrounds. Croix is represented by a sigil of a bird and red banners, while Guillaume is represented by a sigil of a lion and blue banners.

BG Healing Items

Battlegrounds in TalonRO uses four BG-specific potions that are special only to Battlegrounds. These items are the BG Red Potion, BG Blue Potion, BG Green Potion, and BG ASPD Potion:

Each of these will function in a manner similar to their normal counterparts.

  • Bg red.png BG Red Potions will heal between 20%-30% of your total HP.
  • Bg blue.png BG Blue Potions will heal 40%-50% of your SP.
  • Bg green.png The BG Green Potion will cure status ailments.
  • Bg aspd.png BG ASPD Potion works in a very unique way, it will automatically check your class/level and accordingly buff with a Concentration, Awakening or Berserk potion.


Once you join a Match, you will be given some amount of each pot listed above, that totally depends on which class you are playing. In addition of more consumable items such as Blue/Yellow Gems, Webs, FCP/AD/Poison Pots depending on your class! BG items also have 0 weight and cannot be used outside of a Battlegrounds match.

Once in a Battlegrounds match, the use of all other healing items will be restricted. Other skills which can heal you, such a Heal, Potion Pitcher, Sanctuary, etc. will all be permitted as they are normally within WoE mechanics. This focus on allowing only these two healing items within Battlegrounds helps to ensure a fairer playing field among all participants while also minimizing on the reliance for outside items to be successful within the Battlegrounds match.

There is a restock that is freely given when dying, it will reward you the same kind of supplies gave to you when starting the match but reduced and balanced by an intelligent delay.

Battlegrounds Commands

  • @battlegrounds / @bg: Use of this command is used to enable or disable BG-related announcements.
    • When queuing up, this command will be automatically enabled.
  • @order: This command is available only to a leader of a BG match.
    • As a team leader, use of this command will allow you to send a global message to all members of your team as needed.
    • Think of it like shouting command orders to your team to get them into proper tactical formation!
  • @leader: This command is available only to a leader of a BG match.
    • Use of this command will allow you to switch the Team Leadership to another member of your team. Use this command in the following syntax: @leader <character>.
  • @reportafk: This command is to be used for players who appear to be AFK during a BG match, which would otherwise hold up gameplay.
    • Players who are AFK from their client for more than one minute (60 seconds) will be removed from the Battlegrounds Arena.
    • This system helps to prevent anyone from entering Battlegrounds with the intention to simply collect BG coins. Any attempts to bypass this restriction or abuse this command will carry severe penalties, up to and including a ban from TalonRO. If there are any questions about this, please contact a member of the Game Master staff.
  • /battlechat: If you need to talk to other members on your team, using this helpful command will allow you to do it!
    • Simply use /battlechat and start talking to get a message out to your entire team - just like you would in a party or guild!

Modes, Maps, and Methods

Battlegrounds now offers NINE distinct match modes – making each match and its requirements different, fun, and challenging. Some modes are offered all throughout the week, while others are part of a new Battlegrounds Weekend! BG on TalonRO is designed to keep the action going throughout the week – but also for even extra fun on the weekends when the matches can grow larger and even more challenging!

  • All the match modes follow War of Emperium rules on skills and mechanics (as opposed to PvP mechanics). This also means that skills such as Backslide, High Jump, Warp Portal, Teleport, etc. are also prohibited and turned off in Battlegrounds. Damage will also not be displayed in Battlegrounds mode, as it is in the War of Emperium.
  • When a player dies in a Battlegrounds match, they will have the opportunity to be revived after a short cool down period. This period lasts for 25 seconds before you can re-enter the match after death.
  • Upon the completion of a match, there is a 2 minute cool down before you are able to re-enter another match.


Each mode of Battlegrounds is played with different objectives and feature different rewards. A full summary of each mode can be found below:

The Tierra Gorge [Friday, Saturday, and Sunday ONLY]

Two forts bookend the steep valley at its north and south locations, along with ration depots for Guillaume and Croix factions on either side as well. Located in the central portion of the Tierra Gorge is a neutral base camp as well, which is featured in a few specific battle modes. Each side arrives to their side of the Tierra Gorge by boat, and begins to set up their base camp – from there, objectives for winning each match are determined by participation in one of the following modes:

Objectives

Get the control of the war zone between Guillaume and Croix. A neutral zone was established in the middle of the battleground and other 2 in the North and South, you will have to get to these bases and depending in which match perform an action.

Modes

  • Eye of the Storm
    • The objective is to claim the central base in the Tierra Gorge by claiming a neutral flag and returning it to your base camp to be awarded points.
    • Continuing to successfully return this flag to your base camp may also result in additional points being awarded to your side as well – but be careful not to drop your own flag upon death!
    • The first side to accumulate 99 points will win the match!
  • Domination
    • In Domination, both sides bases are considered to be neutral, and may be captured by either side as a result!
    • You may also elect to capture a neutral flag in the central base and return it to a captured base (either North or South – whichever you team has successfully captured) for extra points!
    • The first side to accumulate 99 points will win the match!
  • Bossnia
    • Bossnia requires your team to capture and defend the neutral flag in the central base of the Tierra Gorge.
    • To aid your team, you’ll be supported by five boss monsters to assist you! If your team holds the neutral flag, the other team’s boss monsters are susceptible to being attacked – which means that you should switch into your best PvM mode and take them down!
    • When a boss dies, the central flag becomes neutral again, and the flag must be recaptured in order to attack the other team’s monsters.
    • The first team to defeat all five of the opposing team’s monsters will win the match!

Flavius

This special arena was constructed by the Dukedom to settle each warring faction’s disputes in an all-out battle royale! Special crystals anchor each side of the map for both Croix and Guillaume factions, with each side beginning their battle inside of their designated section of this small but mighty arena. The objectives for winning are determined by your participation in one of the following match modes:

Objective

The objective of Flavius is: destroy the opposing team's crystals two times (to earn two points) before the other team scores two points. Each team will spawn at one of the two points on the map. If your team spawns in point Spawn Point # 1 you attack Base # 2; if you spawn in Spawn Point # 2 you attack Base # 1. It is also a recommended strategy to defend your own base against the invading team as well.

How to Play

  • Each base features both a Pink Crystal and a Blue Crystal, which will spawn at either end of the map at the team's base.
  • When a crystal has been destroyed, the team which destroys the crystal will earn one point. Once the crystal has been destroyed, players will be re spawned at their original spawn point and the match will restart. The first team to earn two points (destroy a crystal twice) will win the match. Therefore, the Flavius battleground match can be played to the best of three rounds.

Modes

  • Capture the Flag
    • The objective of the Flavius Battle Capture the Flag is to score 3 points before your the opposing team, which is done by capturing their crystal
    • To capture a crystal, you will need to retrieve the enemy's crystal from their base, and return it to your base's crystal area.
    • If your own base crystal is captured as well, you will need to kill the player who has taken your crystal, and return the crystal back to your base.
  • Stone Control
    • In Stone Control, collect all of the stones located in the middle of the battlefield, and return them to your base in their proper stone locations.
    • Each collected stone will grant points to your team. The first team to reach 99 points will win the match!
    • Be certain to protect your stones from being captured by the opposing team!


War of Emperium Arena.

In order to help the Marroll Dukedom recruit sufficient adventurers of quality to their sides, the Allied Guilds of Midgard have decided to open their spaces for training and testing to prepare Battlegrounds allegiants for the real battles that await them! These battlegrounds modes are similar in nature to War of Emperium simulations, and may also help new guilds train for WoE scenarios as well – which is great if you’re new to WoE, or if your experienced guild would like to run a training simulation as well. There are two modes available in this space.

Objective

The objective of War of Emperium is: pass thought the defense of a castle and take or defend it. These are scenarios from current WoE castles, so you might be need to be familiar with the way until Emperium or the flags in WoE 2.0.

How to Play

  • You will need to be familiar with the way walking towards emperium in WoE.
  • In WoE 2.0 mode it would be better to know the walk around Flags and Options, so when defending it gives huge advantage.
  • Most teams attack and defend one Stone in Conquer to avoid it breaking.
  • Conquer mode has 6 minutes for each objective (breaking Stones and Barricades).
  • Rush mode you will have 5 minutes after taking/losing the emperium to break/defend.

Modes

  • Conquest
    • In Conquest, you will have two tactics you can employ which are similar in nature to a WoE SE simulation:
      • If you are attacking, focus on destroying the enemy's defenses, along with their flag.
      • Should you focus on defending, work to protect your base, along with your own flag.
  • Rush
    • Rush is a fight to capture the castle base and organize your team to defend it, which is similar in nature to a WoE FE simulation:
      • To begin, both teams are spawned inside of a FE castle, and must quite literally “rush” to break the Emperium inside.
      • Once the Emperium has been broken, both teams will remain where they are and will take new tactical postures: the team which broken the Emperium will be on defense!
      • Should your team fail on the first capture attempt, you will need to kill the defending team and recover to claim victory.

Battle Arenas

These new, custom maps to TalonRO allow all teams in this mode to have a chance of winning – and is designed to be a balanced take on a difficult mode of gameplay. Two types of mode exist in this space. This is a mode to battle and kill other team players and show off your PvP Skills.

Objective

The objective of Battle Arenas is: kill everyone. These are PvP oriented scenarios in where you have to team up and show off your PvP skills.

How to Play

  • Get in the arena and kill all you can.
  • Try to survive as much as you can.
  • Triple Inferno you gotta get the skulls from the ground and bring to your flag, it is important to get your skulls as well so they won't grab it
  • Team Death Match works better in group raid, so try to gather before going in alone.

Modes

  • Triple Inferno
    • Aptly named, this Triple Inferno features 3 teams on the battlefield - including your team and two other enemy teams.
      • A new third Team Faction - Griffe - will be added into the mix as well. During BG Queue, you may be sorted to fight for this special team.
      • The Viscount Griffe of the Duke's inner circle has raised his own army to attempt to broker a third arrangement among the fight for the Dukedom of Maroll!
    • Your objective will be to kill the enemy players, collect their skulls, and bring then to the Sacrifice Totem in order to win points.
    • You can even collect your own team's skulls and bring them to your own team's Sacrifice Totem in an effort to prevent enemy teams from scoring against you.
    • Should you be killed, all of your collected skulls will drop onto the battlefield, including your own skull!
    • The number of points needed to win will scale based on the number of players who participate in Triple Inferno!
    • Note that @arealoot is disabled during Triple Inferno. However, the Whitesmith "Greed" skill is not disabled!
  • Team Death Match
    • In Team Death Match, you must kill all the enemy players on the other team to ensure the enemy scores as few points as possible.
    • Protect your army to the best of your ability! The number of points needed to win will scale based on the number of players who participate in Team Death Match.

Battlegrounds Coins

To the victor go the spoils! Each match play of Battlegrounds will reward you with a number of coins for each match. Not all equipment can be obtained by both types of coins. Because the coins are different, they cannot be mixed to pay for a single item. It may be useful to think of each coin as a different type of currency that is unique to those items. They cannot be combined nor can Glory Coins be traded for Valor Coins (or vice versa).

All Glory and Valor coins are account bound. Coins traded in for Battlegrounds items are also account bound. All coins and BG items can be sold to an NPC as well. These coins can be traded to the Erundek NPC in the Battleground Arena Room for special prizes that cannot be obtained anywhere but Battlegrounds!

Glory and Valor Coins

Players will be able to earn Glory and Valor Coins from each mode of Battlegrounds, which in turn can be used for special prizes! These coins have no other value outside of BG and are character bound. Once they have been redeemed for items, these items will become account bound. This means that both coins and items cannot be vended, traded, or dropped. Coins cannot be stored, but items obtained from Battlegrounds can be placed into storage. Finally, both coins and BG items can be sold to an NPC if you choose - so be careful that you do not sell them by accident to an NPC!

Coins Cap

While Battlegrounds is a constantly war zone, we encourage people to play as much as they want to. But it was established a soft cap for coins per week which is a tremendous amount of 5.000 Valor Coins. When this cap is reached you will stop receiving coins until the next week.

Battlegrounds Reward System

On top of all these wonderful new additions, the rewarding system was also improved, now you get coins whether you win or lose, so every mode and every match type gives a different amount of coins. You only get Glory Coins if you win a match. Valor Coins are giving all the times.

Battlegrounds Happy Hours

The new Battlegrounds Happy Hour is also offered on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 3:00pm to 7:00pm server time! During this time, you’ll receive an additional +20% bonus on all coins earned through Battlegrounds matches! The weekend Happy Hour is a great time to enjoy BG modes and to take on challenges with large groups of players, as well!

Battleground Items

Prizes in Battlegrounds are unique and can't be found anywhere else in TalonRO! These prizes include weapons, armors, and consumable items which can all be used anywhere in TalonRO. These items are permitted in Vanilla Mode styles of gameplay (including Vanilla PvP and WoE). With exception of the Glorious Armors and Weapons are only equippable in PvP/WoE/BG environments. For a complete listing of available prizes, please see the tables below:

Upgrade BG Supplies

During the start of every match and while restocking in the Return Room, you will receive a certain amount of useful supplies. By purchasing an upgrade, you will increase the amount obtained in these situations, giving you a significant advantage during a round of Battlegrounds. Keep in mind that these boosts expire at the start of every month!. These upgrades are bound to your Forum Account, so it works in all your accounts and characters!

Brave Weapons
