Battlegrounds

From TalonRO Wiki

Bgbanner6.png

TalonRO's Battleground is designed to test the abilities of players in a team-style battle as they compete with one another for honor, victory, and prizes! The objective of Battlegrounds is to compete toward set objectives in each round mode in order to win against their opposing team in a PVP-style battle using War of Emperium mechanics. This guide will take you through the basic mechanics of TalonRO's Battleground System, including how to register, match gameplay, awarding of coins, and how coins may be redeemed for Battlegrounds prizes. Let the battle begin!

Important Rules and Concepts

Before beginning Battlegrounds, there are a few important concepts and rules that you should be familiar with prior to match play on TalonRO. Several key differences make Battlegrounds on TalonRO unique, and so it is important to be familiar with them prior to playing. Although the actual mechanics of Battlegrounds have largely remain unchanged from their original versions, there are several changes with respect to who can play, how you can heal yourself during play, and how to collect rewards after a Battlegrounds match. These details are listed in the below sections:

IP and Account Restrictions

All Battlegrounds participants are limited to playing on one character at a time. This means that only one person per IP address can be playing in a Battlegrounds match. You are of course welcome to take turns if you are sharing your IP address with someone else, or use other characters on your account in different matches. However, this rule means that only one character per IP address can be in a BG match at any given time. Any attempts to bypass this restriction will carry severe penalties, up to and including a ban from TalonRO. If there are any questions about this, please contact a member of the Game Master staff.

AFK Rules and Conditions

Because Battlegrounds is meant to be played in a rapid and fast style of play, all players who are AFK from their client for more than one minute (60 seconds) will be removed from the Battlegrounds Arena. Furthermore, if you leave BG early by DCing, you will be given a 30 minute cooldown. This system helps to prevent anyone from entering Battlegrounds with the intention to simply collect Valor or Bravery Coins. Any attempts to bypass this restriction will carry severe penalties, up to and including a ban from TalonRO. If there are any questions about this, please contact a member of the Game Master staff.

Rules on fair play

Battlegrounds is intended to be a challenging and interactive system of team play. Because Battlegrounds is also a reward-based event, any cases where players are knowingly exploiting the use of turns with the purpose of gaining coins faster will be treated as a serious offense. Accordingly, you are not allowed to take turns in winning or just losing on purpose so that the other team can farm coins faster. If you or others are caught doing so (by either a player report or via a GM patrolling the game), severe punishments may be inflicted.

Healing Item Restrictions

In TalonRO Battlegrounds, you are limited to the use of two items to heal yourself with: the BG Red Potion and the BG Blue Potion. Each of these will function in a manner similar to their normal counterparts. BG Red Potions will heal between 20%-30% of your total HP, while BG Blue Potions will heal 40%-50% of your SP. The section below on BG Healing Items will cover this concept in greater detail. These potions (20 of each) will be given to you at zero cost once you have entered the Battlegrounds Preparation Room and cannot be used outside of Battlegrounds. Once in a Battlegrounds match, the use of all other healing items will be restricted. Other skills which can heal you, such a Heal, Potion Pitcher, Sanctuary, etc. will all be permitted as they are normally within WoE mechanics.

Reward Item Parameters

Once you have completed a Battlegrounds match, you will be rewarded with 2 Valor Coins or Bravery Coins. When it's a tie, you will both be rewarded with 1 Coin. These coins and their use are explained in the Coin Section below. It is important to note that there is a hard cap on the amount of coins that any single account may receive. This cap is 20 coins (either Valor or Bravery). Once you have hit the ceiling on how many coins your account can earn in a week, you will have to wait for Sunday 10pm server time to reset. After the limit has been reset, you can continue to earn coins normally through Battlegrounds. You are welcome to continue playing Battlegrounds after hitting the limit, but you won't get any rewards.

BG Overview: Registration and Allegiance

Congratulations - you've decided that the time to play Battlegrounds is now and you're feeling ready to enter this exciting world of PvP team action! There are several steps to playing Battlegrounds, and the process is fairly straightforward and simple. The following sections will take you through each step of the Battleground Pre-Registration and Allegiance process in detail to ensure that you are registered for the match mode you wish to play. For those looking for a quick overview, the Battlegrounds Registration Process can be best summarized in the following chart:

Bgexplanation-updated.png

Each mode of Battlegrounds is unique and features very distinct objectives, making both rounds very different from one another. For an in-depth walkthrough of each mode, please read on about modes, maps, and methods of TalonRO's Battlegrounds.

Let's now walkthrough each of the steps in the Battlegrounds registration process, including the battle recruiters, arena lobby, allegiances, and more.

Entering Battlegrounds

To begin playing in Battlegrounds, you can get in using two methods:

  1. You can use the !battleground command to sign up for the Battleground Queue. This way you can just stay in a city and you will be warped automatically once enough people signed up.
  2. You can also go inside manually by talking to the Warp Girl and warping yourself to the PvP Hub. Here you will find the NPC to warp you to Battlegrounds.

Battlegrounds Arena Lobby

The Battlegrounds Arena lobby is the hub of all of the action on Battlegrounds. From here, you will be able to make several selections prior to participating in Battlegrounds, including forming an allegiance with either the Croix or Guillaume factions, using Kafra Storage, weapons repairs, selecting your BG match, and redeeming coins for prizes. The map below indicates where you will find each NPC in the Battleground Arena Lobby:

BGArenaMap.png

Warper: This NPC will take you out of the Battlegrounds Arena Room. Kafra: Just like a normal Kafra Agent, she will be able to access your storage if needed and perform weapon/armor repairs for you prior to going into battle. Erundek: The main prize distribution NPC. He will redeem your Valor or Bravery Coins for various prizes, including special weapons, armors, and consumable items. Guillaume: General Guillaume and his team. Here you can pledge allegiance to the Guillaume side if you so choose. Croix: Prince Croix and his team. Here you can pledge allegiance to the Croix side if you so choose. Tierra and Flavius NPCs: Once you have selected a side, use these NPCs to enter in the mode of Battlegrounds you wish to play in - either the Tierra Gorge battle or Flavius battle.

Choosing a Side: Croix or Guillaume

Upon your first visit to the Battlegrounds Arena, your character must select a side to fight for. Pledging your fighting to one side is an important step in Battlegrounds, as it will determine which team you are placed on. Both sides are identical otherwise. In the story of Battlegrounds, two princes - Prince Croix and General Guillaume - are fighting for control of the throne of the Maroll Kingdom. Placed into bitter war with one another, each side is looking to recruit bannermen to their side to fight under their houses. Selecting a side indicates which side you will be fighting for in Battlegrounds. Croix is represented by a sigil of a bird and often red banners, while Guillaume is represented by a sigil of a lion and often blue banners.

Selecting Battle Mode

After you have chosen a side, you may proceed to select a battle mode using the NPCs at the counter on each side of the Battlegrounds Arena Room. If you are aligned with Croix, use the NPCs at the north of the room; if you are aligned with Guillaume, use the NPCs at the south of the room. From here, you can select between the two modes available in Battlegrounds: Tierra Gorge and Flavius.

Within each mode of play, you will have the option of selecting between Vanilla and Unrestricted Modes of game play.

From here, you will select the match play you wish to participate in. PLEASE NOTE: because there are two modes of Tierra Gorge and Flavius arena maps (Vanilla and Unrestricted), you will want to make sure that you are selecting the room you wish to participate in. For example, if you and a group of your friends come to play in Battlegrounds, be certain that you are all choosing the same instance of the Battlegrounds round. Once you have done this and have made your selection, you will be moved into the waiting room to await a full compliment of participants in the round.

After confirming your match mode with the Battlegrounds Officer on your aligned side, you will be placed into a waiting room until all players needed to start a round have joined into Battlegrounds. **All Battlegrounds matches will require 8 players on each side before a round can start**. This means that a total of 16 people must be ready in order to initiate the round. A round will not start without 8 vs. 8. Once you have all players ready for battle, your match will begin!

BG Healing Items

Battlegrounds in TalonRO uses four BG-specific potions that are special only to Battlegrounds. These items are the BG Red Potion, BG Blue Potion, BG Green Potion, **and **BG ASPD Potion: Bgpotions.pngGreenPotion.pngASPD.PNG

Each of these will function in a manner similar to their normal counterparts. BG Red Potions will heal between 20%-30% of your total HP, while BG Blue Potions will heal 40%-50% of your SP. The BG Green Potion will cure status ailments. The BG ASPD Potion works in a very unique way. The BG ASPD Potion will automatically check your class and level. It will then accordingly buff you with a Concentration, Awakening or Berserk potion. Once enter the Battlegrounds Preparation Room, you will be given 20 of these potions at the start of match play. BG potions also have 0 weight and cannot be used outside of a Battlegrounds match. Once you leave Battlegrounds, these items will be removed from your inventory.

Once in a Battlegrounds match, the use of all other healing items will be restricted. Other skills which can heal you, such a Heal, Potion Pitcher, Sanctuary, etc. will all be permitted as they are normally within WoE mechanics. This focus on allowing only these two healing items within Battlegrounds helps to ensure a fairer playing field among all participants while also minimizing on the reliance for outside items to be successful within the Battlegrounds match.

/Battlechat

Once in a Battlegrounds match, the only way to speak with your team during a BG match will be through the use of a special command: /battlechat. All messages typed using /battlechat will appear in purple, and you will only be able to talk to your team when using /battlechat. All other chat methods, including party, guild, !main, !market, !recruit, and open chat will not work until battlechat is deactivated.

Modes, Maps, and Methods

All Battlegrounds matches are played 10 vs. 10 in one of two modes of battle. In each mode, the winning team will receive two special coins, while the losing team will receive no coins. When it's a tie, both teams will be rewarded one coin. These coins can be exchanged for special Battlegrounds-only prizes in the Battlegrounds Arena Room. There are several common features throughout both modes, including:

  • Both types of matches follow War of Emperium rules on skills and mechanics (as opposed to PvP mechanics). This also means that skills such as Backslide, High Jump, Warp Portal, Teleport, etc. are also prohibited and turned off in Battlegrounds. Damage will also not be displayed in Battlegrounds mode, as it is in the War of Emperium.
  • When a player dies in a Battlegrounds match, they will have the opportunity to be revived after a short cooldown period. This period lasts for 25 seconds before you can re-enter the match after death.
  • Upon the completion of a match, there is a 5 minute cooldown before you are able to re-enter another match.
  • A single account can only earn a maximum of 20 coins in Battlegrounds every week. Once this limit has been reached, the player will no longer earn coins until this limit has been reset. For more details, please read below on BG Coin Limits.

Each mode of Battlegrounds is played with different objectives and feature different rewards. A full summary of each mode can be found below:

Tierra Gorge

The Tierra Gorge is a large valley-style map with many different pathways between two base camps, positioned on the north and south of the map. Located in the middle of a map is a neutral base camp. The left canyon is a direct pathway between the two camps which is guarded by barricades. The right plateau pathway is an alternate path that is free of barricades, but is a longer route between both camps.

Tierra.png

Objective

The goal of Tierra Valley is: destroy the food storage depot of the opposing team before the other team can destroy yours. Each team will spawn at one of the two points on the map. If your team spawns in point Spawn Point # 1 you attack Base # 2; if you spawn in Spawn Point # 2 you attack Base # 1. It is also a recommended strategy to defend your own base against the invading team as well. There is also a Neutrality Flag located in the center of the map, which may turn the tide of battle in your favor.

How to Play

  • Begin by forming a plan of attack and defense: attacking the opposing team's food storage (located in the base area). Each base has a food storage, which must be destroyed. The first team who destroys this food storage will win the match.
  • There are two routes to each of the bases: the Barricade Route and the Plateau Route.
    • In order to proceed down the Barricade Route, you must destroy each Barricade through the path. Each barricade has a small amount of HP. If your team's side of the barricades are destroyed, the barricades can be repaired by bringing 50 Stones to your team's Blacksmith. Your Blacksmith will appear near the destroyed Barricade area when the barricades have been destroyed and he is needed for repairs.
    • There are no obstacles along the Plateau Route. This path is unblocked, but is a much longer pathway around to each base camp and carries potential risks of being attacked.
  • Located in the center of the map is a Neutral Camp along with a Neutrality Flag. The team that captures/kills this flag by attacking it will be called to the Neutral Base. Furthermore, any player on this team will respawn at this base instead of at their original spawn point. This team will also earn the use of 3 Guardians in the battle: 2 Sword Guardians and 1 Archer Guardian.

Point System

Bravery Coins are the reward for completing the Tierra Valley Battleground mode. The team that wins the Tierra Gorge round will receive two (2) Bravery Coins. The team that loses the battle will receive zero (0) Bravery Coins. In the case of a tie, both teams will win one (1) Bravery Coin.

Flavius

The Flavius Mode is an enclosed space between two spawn points for a fast-paced battle system. Two crystals are seated at the base of each side. The crystals for both teams are guarded by a set of guardians. These guardians must be destroyed first before a crystal can be directly attacked.

Flavius.png

Objective

The objective of Flavius is: destroy the opposing team's crystals two times (to earn two points) before the other team scores two points. Each team will spawn at one of the two points on the map. If your team spawns in point Spawn Point # 1 you attack Base # 2; if you spawn in Spawn Point # 2 you attack Base # 1. It is also a recommended strategy to defend your own base against the invading team as well. Each crystal will also be guarded by two different Guardian Monsters at each base. These two guardians must be destroyed before the crystal can be attacked.

How to Play

  • Each base features both a Pink Crystal and a Blue Crystal, which will spawn at either end of the map at the team's base.
  • Before a crystal can be directly attacked and destroyed, each team will have to defeat the other team's two guardians. While these guardians are alive, the crystal cannot be attacked. When a team's guardians have been eliminated, their crystal is open for direct attack.
  • When a crystal has been destroyed, the team which destroys the crystal will earn one point. Once the crystal has been destroyed, players will be respawned at their original spawn point and the match will restart. The first team to earn two points (destroy a crystal twice) will win the match. Therefore, the Flavius battleground match can be played to the best of three rounds.

Point System

Valor Coins are the reward for completing the Flavius Battleground mode. The team that wins the Flavius round will receive two (2) Valor Coins. The team that loses the battle will receive zero (0) Valor Coins.

Battlegrounds Coins

To the victor go the spoils! Each match play of Battlegrounds will reward you with a number of coins for each match. Tierra Gorge matches will reward you with Bravery Coins and Flavius matches will reward you with Valor Coins. All equipment available from Battlegrounds will have either the prefix Valor or Bravery, depending on which medals you are redeeming. Not all equipment can be obtained by both types of coins. Because the coins are different, they cannot be mixed to pay for a single item. It may be useful to think of each coin as a different type of currency that is unique to those items. They cannot be combined nor can Bravery Coins be traded for Valor Coins (or vice versa).

All Valor and Bravery coins are account bound. Coins traded in for Battlegrounds items are also account bound. All coins and BG items can be sold to an NPC as well. These coins can be traded to the Erundek NPC in the Battleground Arena Room for special prizes that cannot be obtained anywhere but Battlegrounds!

Valor and Bravery Coins

Players will be able to earn Valor and Bravery Coins from each mode of Battlegrounds, which in turn can be used for special prizes! These coins have no other value outside of BG and are character bound. Once they have been redeemed for items, these items will become account bound. This means that both coins and items cannot be vended, traded, or dropped. Coins cannot be stored, but items obtained from Battlegrounds can be placed into storage. Finally, both coins and BG items can be sold to an NPC if you choose - so be careful that you do not sell them by accident to an NPC!

Bgcoinvalorbravery.png

BG Coin Limits

Players will only be able to earn 20 Valor Coins and Bravery Coins from Battlegrounds on their game account every week. Once your game account has reached this upper bound, that account will no longer be able to obtain Valor Coins and/or Bravery Coins until this limit resets at Sunday 10pm server time. It is important to note that this limit applies to all characters on your game account. Accordingly, if you hit the limit with one character, other characters on the account will not be able to earn either Valor or Bravery Coins.

Cashing in for Prizes

Prizes in Battlegrounds are unique and can't be found anywhere else in TalonRO! These prizes include weapons, armors, and consumable items which can all be used anywhere in TalonRO. These items are permitted in Vanilla Mode styles of gameplay (including Vanilla PvP and WoE). For a complete listing of available prizes, please see the tables below:
