Installing TalonRO & Frequently Asked Questions / Troubleshooting

Welcome to TalonRO! You’ve chosen to play on one of the best low-rate private servers in existence and we hope that you will enjoy your gaming experience. In order to ensure that you’re able to connect to TalonRO successfully, you’ll need to go through a few steps before you’re able to log in to the game and start playing. This guide will help you successfully install TalonRO on your computer – as well as help you through any errors you may encounter in connecting through our Frequently Asked Questions & Troubleshooting section. We’re happy that you’ve chosen to become a part of our community and look forward to seeing you in-game!

System Requirements

TalonRO should run on almost any modern PC. Ragnarok Online does not run on a visually-intense 3D platform, and the requirements for your computer should be fairly easy. The basic system specifications are as follows:

Operating System: Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
CPU: Pentium II 400 or greater
Memory 128 MB or higher
Hard Disk 1.7GB after Installation
Monitor Resolution 640 x 480 or higher
VGA Card 16MB with 3d Acceleration
Sound Card DirectSound or compatible / Support 3D Sound Effect.
Operation Keyboard / Mouse
Internet 56k modem or faster
DirectX 8.1 or newer

Please note that a speaker/headphone must generally be plugged in to start the client. Also, the higher your RAM and video card’s performance are, the smoother the game will run. Also, the greater your connection speed and bandwidth are, the better your connection to TalonRO will be (including connection to the server, reduction of in-game latency, etc.).

For Apple Mac & Linux users: please note that Ragnarok Online is designed for Windows Operating Systems, and thus is not fully supported on OSx and Linux operating systems. You may have some luck running TalonRO on a Windows emulator, such as WinE or Boot Camp, to load the game. Accordingly, TalonRO may not function properly on a Mac or Linux-based computer.

Account Registration and Download

The following steps will ensure that you have a successful download, installation, and connection to the server. If you encounter any problems along the way, be sure to visit the FAQ & Troubleshooting section of this guide to help solve your installation and connection issues.

Step One: Register a Forum and Game Account with TalonRO

Getting an account on TalonRO is a simple process. You will need to set up the following two accounts in order to play:

  • A Forum Account
  • A Game Account

Once you have created both, you simply link the two together, and you’re ready to play! In fact, you can even link as many Game Accounts as you like to your Forum Account. The benefit is that all of your Game Accounts can be managed through your single Forum Account, making account management quick and easy.

Here’s how to play TalonRO in just a few easy to follow steps:

1) From the Home Page, click on REGISTRATION in the right-hand column:

Step Two: Downloading the TalonRO Client

With your account now established, go back to the main website and click on "DOWNLOAD":

From here, you will have two choices on how to obtain the TalonRO client - the Mini Installer or the Full Installer

One is if you have a version of Ragnarok Online already installed. The other is if you do not presently have a version of RO installed and would like a clean installation (which is recommended). To play TalonRO, you will need 2 main things. First off you need an updated version of the latest kRO and Sakray files. Secondly, you will need the TalonRO Client.

If you already have an updated version of Sakray installed, then you will just need to download the Mini Installer. If you do not have Sakray installed yet, then you will have to download the Full Installer.

If you are not sure what file to get, get the Full Installer. This will always contain all the files you need. If the download gets corrupted or stops unexpectedly, try using a Download Manager.

Step 2.5: Downloading using the Full Installer

If you do not have RO yet, you can use our Full Installer to install the game. This contains all necessary Ragnarok Online files plus the TalonRO Client files.

You can download the Full Installer by using the following link:

Once you have downloaded the Full Installer, you can install it. It is advised to just use the instructions on screen and to leave things on their default values. Once the download is finished, open the Full Installer on your PC in the location you downloaded the file to and follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you read the server rules, then accept them.
  2. Select a folder to install the game in. NOTE: Be sure to install TalonRO into its own, new folder.
  3. Sit back, let it unpack, and enjoy the show!

After the installation has finished, it is advised to patch both your RO Client (Renewal client) and TalonRO. Note that these are separate things – the Renewal Client pertains to the base RO files you need to play the game, and the TalonRO client is what will allow you to play TalonRO, along with all of our special customizations, connection to the server, etc. To patch your Renewal, go to your RO folder and run RagnarokPatch.exe. Press Start and wait until the patching is completed. After that, run TalonPatch.exe and wait for it to finish. If you are running Windows Vista or 7, make sure you run the patcher as an Administrator. If you have any problems installing or patching the game, don't hesitate to ask for help on the TalonRO Forums.

Step 2.5: Downloading using the Mini Installer

If you already have the Renewal RO client installed, you will only need the TalonRO Client to play on the server.

You can download the Mini Installer by using the following link:

Once you have downloaded the Mini Installer, you can install it. It is advised to just use the instructions on screen. Open the Mini installer on your PC in the location you downloaded the file to and follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you read the server rules, then accept them.
  2. Select the folder where your current Ragnarok Online game is located.

Step Three: Log in and Connect to the Server

Now that you’ve installed TalonRO, it’s time to play! To start the game, click on the TalonRO Patcher. This is how you will always enter the game – through the patching screen and news center. Not only is this the proper way to start the game, but it will also ensure that your client is fully patched with the latest information and updates (which will help to prevent your game from crashing in the future). Once any patching has finished, click on “Start Game” to be taken to the login screen.

Here, you will enter your account name and your password. At this point, you’ll initiate a connection with the server and be taken to the character creation screen. From here, you can create your in-game character, starting as a Novice. You’ll be able to give your Novice a name, set some of the initial stats, and enter the game.
