The Potential % Drop Chance for Cards or Equipment

Introduction - The Problem

There are some misconceptions among people - in the past in general and just lately - about the % drop chance for items that certain cards or equips give. This guide is to explain the whole thing and provide few examples and clarifications, in hopes it will help people that are being eaten alive by uncertainty as to how exactly this whole thing works, how to read scripts, etc; so they can make an informed decision whether to purchase a certian card/piece of equipment in hopes of potential profit.

First, some examples and explanations.

Server's Drop Rate

First and foremost, you need to keep in mind that the server's drop rate does affect the % drop chance. So the last calculation you should do is multiplying the % you came up with by the server's drop rate.

In Talon's case, that drop rate is 3.

Now, on to examples.

Multiple Equipments With Drop Chances

You have a total of 5 different script slots for % drop chance items; if you go over this, some items will not have a chance to drop. This is per script, and items that drop from a group only count as 1 against this total. For example, a Plasma Card (chance to drop Elemental Resist Potions) takes up 4 slots all by itself, one for each potion, while a Blazer card (which drops from the IG_Food group) only takes up one of these slots.

Also, having two items that drop the same thing equipped is pointless, as only the highest chance is calculated. This means that two Mimic Cards, two Myst Case Cards, or having a Kitchen Knife and an Umbala Spirit, are all pointless in regards to % drop chance.

Example 1

We know that Luna Kaleet [3] adds a chance to drop the popular DEX + 5 Green Salad food.

Take a look at the description for that particular part corresponding to dropping the item. It clearly states the drop chance is 1%:

> When a Plant Type monster is killed, 1% Chance to drop a food item.

Now take a look at the part of the script responsible for that:

> bonus3 bAddMonsterDropItem,12065,RC_Plant,100;

So, 100 = 1%

When you multiply this by the server's drop rate, you get a 1% * 3 = 3% drop chance.

IMPORTANT: On Talon, Luna Kaleet's % drop chance for Green Salad is actually a 0.5% in-game. So, 0.5% * 3 = 1.5% chance to drop a Green Salad.

Example 2

Another fine example would be the Fish In Mouth lower headgear. It adds a chance to drop the Fresh Fish every time you kill a monster. The description says it's a 2% chance:

> Add a 2% chance of getting Fresh Fish when a monster gets killed.

And the script for it looks like this:

> bonus2 bAddMonsterDropItem,579,200;

So, 200 = 2%.

When you multiply this by the server's drop rate, you get a 2% * 3 = 6% drop chance.

Now, don't let the difference between usage of bonus2 and bonus3 in those scripts fool you. Yes, they're different, but the number to % conversion is still the same.

So, to sum it all up:

  • every 10 equals to 0.1%
  • every 100 equals to 1%
  • every 1000 equals to 10%
  • etc, you get the idea
  • multiply by the server's drop rate

Or, as ragnarok_champ put it: script's drop chance number / 100 * server's drop rate.

So, using the Mimic Card as an example:

> bonus2 bAddMonsterDropItem,603,10;

10 / 100 * 3 = 0.3% chance to drop an Old Blue Box.

Popular items' % drop chance clarified

Now that we got that out of the way, let's clarify some popular cards people use, but are not entirely sure what the % drop chance they give, or maybe even think it's higher than it really is.

1) Mimic Card - gives you a 0.1% * 3 = 0.3% chance to drop an Old Blue Box:

> bonus2 bAddMonsterDropItem,603,10;

2) Myst Case Card - gives you a 0.3% * 3 = 0.9% chance to drop a Gift Box:

> bonus2 bAddMonsterDropItem,644,30;

3) Plasma Card - gives you a 0.5% * 3 = 1.5% chance to drop different kinds of Resist Potions:

> bonus2 bAddMonsterDropItem,12118,50; bonus2 bAddMonsterDropItem,12119,50; bonus2 bAddMonsterDropItem,12120,50; bonus2 bAddMonsterDropItem,12121,50;

4) Hermit Plant Card - gives you a 3% * 3 = 9% chance to drop a Red Herb, a 2% * 3 = 6% chance to drop a Yellow Herb, and a 1% * 3 = 3% chance to drop a White Herb:

> bonus3 bAddMonsterDropItem,507,RC_Plant,300; bonus3 bAddMonsterDropItem,508,RC_Plant,200; bonus3 bAddMonsterDropItem,509,RC_Plant,100;

5) Cloud Hermit Card - gives you a 1% * 3 = 3% chance to drop a Box of Gloom:

> bonus3 bAddMonsterDropItem,12029,RC_Plant,100;

6) Dryad Card - gives you a 1% * 3 = 3% chance to drop a Green Live:

> bonus3 bAddMonsterDropItem,993,RC_Plant,100;

7) Wine Cup - gives you a 0.1% * 3 = 0.3% chance to drop a Mastela Fruit Wine:

> bonus2 bAddMonsterDropItem,12050,10;

Some final words

Right about now it should be all clear and you should be able to calculate your % drop chance from items on your own. If ever in doubt, just refer to the thingy below:

  • every 10 equals to 0.1%
  • every 100 equals to 1%
  • every 1000 equals to 10%
  • etc.
  • multiply by the server's rate

Or, again, as ragnarok_champ put it: script's drop chance number / 100 * server's drop rate. [e.g. 10 / 100 * 3 = 0.3%]

Hope that helps anyone and gives them that peace of mind they longed for.
