Server Rules

From TalonRO Wiki

Please obey the following rules. By doing so, we can keep the game fun and enjoyable for everyone. Anyone caught breaking the rules will be punished by a GM under his/her discretion.

Game Relations

  • There is absolutely NO BOTTING, hacking or any use of a 3rd party program (this includes macros, "autoclickers", etc.).
  • You may only use the official TalonRO client to play the game.
    • Exception: Homunculus AIs are allowed as long as it does not auto-feed and make the player auto-walk.
  • Vend/chat rules in Prontera, Payon, Aldebaran, and Glast Heim Prison (or any other map in which there is a vendor limit):
    • Do not vend while standing on the road.
    • Do not open a vend or chat within 4 tiles below or 2 tiles around an NPC or portal.
    • Do not keep a vending spot by selling overpriced items.
  • Do not spam annoying skills (e.g. Ice Wall) in town that lag the game (Events are an exception).
  • Exploiting bugs that result in the gain of large quantities of zeny or items, or disrupting the server will result in a ban. Reporting a bug of this nature will result in a reward.
  • Do not pretend to be a Game Master. Do not name yourself similar to a GM.
  • Do not use character names with offensive words in them, that might directly or indirectly offend other players.
  • Do not attempt to trade things within TalonRO for things outside of TalonRO. This includes real money, items/accounts of other servers/games, etc.
    • If someone offers to trade you for things outside of TalonRO, and you can prove to a GM that the seller intended to do so, then we will reward you.

GM (Game Master) Relations

  • GMs will never ask for your items or password in game. However, you may need to provide password confirmation in Reward Center/Support Center.
  • GMs will never give away any zeny, items, leech, or tank players.
  • Respect all GMs.
  • Do not spam messages to GMs.
  • Do not ask to be a GM.
  • GMs reserve the right to ban/mute/jail for rule violations without warning.

Player Relations

  • Respect all players. No harassment or discrimination is allowed. Serious offenses such as racial discrimination or sexual harassment may result in a ban.
  • No spam, trashtalking or vulgar language in !main.
    • Something is considered spam when the same (or a similar) message is repeated very often. If you need something, do not tell or ask about it every 30 seconds or minute. Once every few minutes is more than enough.
  • Although we welcome any nationality and thus a wide variety of languages, it becomes very difficult for players to follow !main chat when a large quantity of lines are in languages they do not understand. As such, please try to keep the primary language in !main to English. Extended conversations or excessive lines in another language can be treated as !main spam on a case-by-case, player-reported basis.
  •  !main chat is not supposed to be used for anything sales related. So if you want to Buy/Sell/Trade or do a PriceCheck, please use !market.
  • Do not attack or loot/greed other players' monsters without their permission.
    • A monster "belongs" to another player if it is attacking, being attacked by, trapped by, or following that player.
    • When casting area attacks, make sure not to hit other players' monsters.
    • Monsters that give the MVP sign when killed are exempt from this rule.
  • Do not warp players using Warp Portal without their permission. Exception: You may do this in PVP, but not to an EXP loss map.
  • Do not use Dead Branches, Bloody Branches, Azoth or Hylozoist Card in Prontera, Payon, Alberta, pay_dun00, gl_prison, orcsdun01 or anthell01. Violators may have their Branches/Azoth/Hylozoist Card confiscated with a fine imposed at the GM's discretion.
  • Purposefully gathering normal monsters and leading them to another player with the intention of killing them is not allowed, however using Dead Branches and forcing MVPs to spawn minions is allowed.
  • Do not chase someone through different PVP rooms killing them repeatedly without their permission.
    • To report players harassing you in this manner, take screenshots of them switching PVP rooms 3 times within half an hour to kill you.
  • Do not scam/steal people of their items, accounts, zeny or reward/voting points.
  • When vending, do not put false advertisements in the shop title with the intention of deceiving buyers.
  • Do not attempt to block vending locations for the sole sake of reserving space. GM staff reserves the right to kick and/or punish offending shops at their discretion.
  • Do not set up a Buying Store where you buy items for less than their NPC value.
  • If someone apologizes for breaking one of the rules above, accept the apology and move on. Do not harass, swear or threaten them.

Alchemist/Creator Related

  • Do not kill other alchemists' plants without their permission.
  • Monsters that an alchemist's plants/homunculus are fighting belong to that player.
  • Do not allow your Homunculus to attack other players' monsters. Use the "Stand By" (Alt+T) command as necessary.

Forum Accounts and Voting

  • You are allowed to only create and retain one forum account per individual player. Within that forum account, however, you are allowed to have as many in-game accounts as you would like. For more information, please see the guide on TalonRO's Account Management System. Players found in possession of multiple forum accounts will be prohibited from playing on TalonRO. If you have signed up for more than one forum account in error, please file a [Support Ticket] with the High GM Team for review.
  • Voting for points in our Reward System is open to all players. However, players must abide by the following rules when voting for points:
    • Only one account can vote per IP address. Do not try to cheat the system. This includes voting from multiple accounts, using proxy servers or avoiding the cooldown in any way. This means that you are only allowed to vote one time per person, even if you have different internet connections available. If you fraud these, you will be caught and all your accounts will be permanently banned. Even if multiple people play from the same IP address (e.g.: a sibling, spouse, friend), you can only have one account vote on that IP address. This means those individuals, for example, would have to cast their votes on a different internet connection.
    • Do not vote from home, office and your school at the same time. Stick to one connection and only use one single account to vote, there is no reason to vote on multiple accounts.

Regarding Captchas on Voting Sites

  • Please be also aware that constantly voting without entering the captchas on the topsites will lead to your forum account losing its voting privileges. TalonRO uses an automated system to monitor captcha entry, so there is no human error or prejudice involved. However, there are certain problems associated with the captcha system, and not TalonRO's voting system, that can interfere with votes processing correctly. The most common reason for a player losing their voting privileges is due to not entering captchas when voting at all. However, some rare circumstances can also cause errors in captcha registry. These include:
    • Opening multiple tabs to vote on multiple sites.
    • Voting from mobile browsers
    • Voting on unsupported browsers (Old versions of IE, Safari and many Asian and more region-limited browsers do not work)
    • The Captcha system may sometimes time out depending on your connection. If this happens, consider waiting awhile before continuing to vote, as other Captcha sites will also time out and will be flagged as neglecting a Captcha.
  • If your account has been suspended from voting, note that this is temporary for first-time offenses. Your voting privileges will return on a case-by-case basis.
  • Note that all the voting sites have a Captcha or bot prevention method of some kind. If you are consistently not seeing one, try to review some fixes before voting again, as you may lose your voting privileges to the other sites as a result.

WoE/Guild Wars Relations

  • Bypassing the castle restriction is not allowed and will result in a punishment.
  • No underhanded tricks, such as:
    • Spamming trade requests.
    • Spamming Party invites.
    • PMs to distract.
    • Etcetera.

Additional Important Rules

  • Do not advertise other RO servers. Openly advertising another server within TalonRO's federated media (e.g.: in-game, on the forums, in IRC, etc.) will result in a permanent ban.
  • You are responsible for your account's security. Choose a strong, secure password that you will not forget.
  • If you give out your password to anyone, you take FULL responsibility for their actions (including botting/scamming/item loss/character deletion)
  • We are not responsible if your items got stolen because someone guessed your password, or because they deceived you.
  • Account trading is not encouraged. If you lose accounts/items from attempting to buy/sell/trade them, we are not responsible for your loss.
  • Most of all: use common sense. Do not do things to other people that you wouldn’t want them to do to you, too.
  • These rules may change without notice.

Item Recovery Rules

There are numerous cases where people have suffered due to not being careful. To prevent general carelessness, please follow the following rules regarding item recovery.

  • Don't lend valuable items to anyone for any reason, even for 1 second. If you lend an item to someone, think of how would you feel if they never gave it back. If you would be upset, then don't lend it to them.
  • Don't let someone else transfer your items between your characters for you. Run dual clients, or in cases where the characters on the same account, do it through Kafra.
  • Don't give out your password to someone unless you are willing to take the risk of losing your items and/or account. Also, if you gave someone your password before but they don't need it anymore, then change your password using Account Options under the Control Panel Menu.
  • When giving items to someone, walk away from other players before trading. Double-check the other character's name at the top of the trade window before giving items. Make sure you didn't deal the wrong character; some people have actually given very valuable items to the wrong character just because they were standing in a crowd.
  • When doing such trades, do NOT pay the other party first unless they are at least level 70, or a transcedent class character. Scammers frequently create throwaway accounts and insist on you giving your items first, then run off with your items without giving you what they promised. By refusing to trust characters under level 70, we make it harder on would-be scammers as they can no longer make throwaway accounts quickly.
  • Check items in trade window on both sides before clicking "Trade". Make sure they are really giving you the items they said they would, and make sure you didn't give the wrong item to them. Be especially wary if the other person keeps cancelling the deal and trading you again. They might be trying to get you off guard to put up a Poring Card instead of a Ghostring Card.
  • If you got scammed, report the scam immediately by submitting a support ticket or talking to a GM. The sooner we know about it, the better our chances of catching the scammer. If you take longer than 24 hours from the time you discovered the scam to report, we may not be able to help you.
  • If someone claims to be a GM in-game and asks you for your password, don't give it to them; they are a scammer (real GMs will not ask you in-game for your password). Instead, take a screenshot of the conversation and submit a support ticket immediately and we will ban them.
  • When dragging items from your inventory, keep the equipment screen (Alt+Q) open. This will prevent you from accidentally dropping an item on the floor.
  • When vending, make sure that the correct price is set. People often forget to put in a digit and sell the item for cheaper than they wanted to.
  • When overupgrading, make sure that the item you're upgrading is the right one. The NPC even asks you to confirm if it is the item you intend to upgrade. Do not skip over it, pay attention to what you are upgrading at all times. Accidental upgrades will not be recovered.
  • Talon Coins are not refunded in case you did not check a NPC, including but not limited to weapon and armor enchanting, before purchasing ingredients.

We reserve the right to refuse service in an item recovery case if you did not follow any of the above rules, or if the case is complicated such that we cannot determine what rightfully belongs to whom.

Reporting Guidelines and Instructions on How to Submit a Report

All reports should be posted to the [TalonRO Reports Forum]. From there, you can choose which type of report to file: a bug report or a general (player, violation, etc.) report. Lately, the GM team have been getting quite a bit of reports through support tickets of various issues. In a lot of cases there was something very fishy or wrong with the reports which in turn made it really hard or impossible to punish anyone, which then in turn caused the reporting player to rage because they feel that we've wronged them. So the purpose of this thread is to offer general guidelines as to what to do when reporting, how to write a report, what sort of evidence we need along with other things. This section will go by report types and list things to include and things that won't work as a proof. Now first of all. Your word is not enough! This applies to practically all reports aside from scam cases and possible bot suspicions. Since in those cases we need to verify things ourselves anyways. This is pretty self explanatory, no matter how good, detailed or great your story of the KS'er or harasser is, we won't believe a word of it without evidence. This should be common sense, always provide evidence with your reports.

What constitutes as evidence?

Screenshots. These are the best possible forms of evidence you can give. Simple screenshots of the felony in place. Try to take as many as possible, the more evidence the better your report and the better chances you have to get the perpetrator punished. You can also give screenshots of Skype convos and logs and pretty much anything else if you think it'll help the case. Now in case you don't know how to take a screenshot, upload it and give it to us.

While chatlogs, stories, eyewitnesses and so on work mainly as supplementary evidence to support your case. The actual type of evidence that we can really base punishments on are screenshots. And of course our own logs.

Now a word about the logs we have. A lot of the activities in the game get logged, this is mainly to help us track and verify things and we can use our own logs as evidence. Few key things that get logged are: 1. Your IP when you log on an account. Meaning if your account was hacked, it's easy for us to verify since the IP who logged will be different than normal.

2. Everything item related. When you obtain an item from a vend/store/mob, when you upgrade an item, when you sell an item, when you trade an item, when you drop an item and so on. All of that gets logged along with your character and account IDs. These can be used to track items, verify things and so on.

3. Main logs. Everyone probably knows that we log !main chats. Everything said in !main gets logged coupled with the character information of the person who said it. Meaning we can easily track what people say in !main. So we can easily verify if a certain player was shouting profanities on !main if we get a report.

However anything log related will take a while to verify, and if you really need us to verify something from the logs then be ready to provide as much information as possible. Mainly the date and time as accurately as you can remember, along with your char name and everything else you can remember of the situation.

What constitutes as Kill Stealing?

Direct quote from our rules page:

"Do not attack or loot/greed other players' monsters without their permission. A monster "belongs" to another player if it is attacking, being attacked by, trapped by, or following that player. When casting area attacks, make sure not to hit other players' monsters. Monsters that give the MVP sign when killed are exempt from this rule."

This means that as long as monster is either chasing or attacking a player, the monster belongs to that player. This also means that if you're mobbing for example and run too fast, and some of your mob gets dropped off and returns to idle state. They're free meat for anyone. If you're planning to attack a monster but it hasn't become aggressive yet then it's still a free game. Mobs do not retain their ownership through death. So if a mob kills you and you're waiting your partymate to res you, all the non aggressive mobs are free for all. They don't belong to your party member, your grandmother or anyone else. As long as a monster is idle, it's free game.

Minibosses are NOT exempt of this rule. This goes for all the poring bosses like Deviling, Ghostring and so on. KSing them is punishable.

Also this should be obvious but I'm gonna say it anyways: DO NOT RUN INTO SOMEONE ELSE'S AREA OF EFFECT ATTACK! If there's an ME on the ground, don't run against it with your mob and then accuse the other party of kill stealing. Don't run into an SG, don't run into a casting circle and so on.

Also for the older/returning players: There are no more KS allowed maps (aside from PvP).

For Alchemists/Creators: if you use an old or badly configured AI, you Homunculus can also killsteal monsters that are following, but not yet attacking someone. This is also forbidden! So configure your AI well.

What evidence do we need

  1. Screenshots clearly showing the kill stealing act. E.g the person hitting mobs that clearly belongs to you.
  2. Screenshots **clearly showing the name of the perpetrator!** This is important. We need to have his name clearly visible in the screenshots either when he's talking or then with your cursor over him to show the name. We absolutely need to see the name, since as I mentioned; we generally don't believe players.
  3. This is not required per se, but it's a good idea to do this. Preferably screenshots of you clearly telling the person to stop killstealing you or you will report him. Do this after the very first instance he killsteals, if the person stops killstealing then don't bother with the report. Also, try to be civil about this. It's never fun to read something like "STOP KS'ING U FUKKEN NUB OR IMMA RAPORET UU1!11!!1". If you don't have any screenshots saying you will report the killstealer, at least make sure you have screenshots of multiple occasions where it happens. Screenshots of a !noks message help, too.

Mobbing is defined as: purposefully gathering normal monsters and leading them to another player with the intention of killing them.

Mobbing is a fairly straightforward act. If you see a player running towards you with a mob on his tail, start taking screenshots. Now if he runs right at you, he is most likely trying to mob you since at least a part of his mob will aggro you. Though on narrow maps this may not be the case. The main thing to take notice on is if he seems to be attempting to kill you. This is generally quite apparent since to get a good chunk of the mob to attack you they'll need to stick around for a bit. Mobbing is a bit difficult to describe but when you get mobbed you'll know. Just remember to take bunch of screenshots for the report.

NOTE: People can mob others by accident and it has happened multiple times before when some of the mob aggros another player or some other accident occurs. If the person mobbing apologizes to you then don't push the subject. Forgive and forget.

What evidence do we need?

  1. Screenshots showing the perpetrator approaching you with a mob.
  2. Screenshots showing the perpetrators mob attacking and/or killing you/someone else.
  3. Screenshots clearly showing the name of the perpetrator.

Now a screenshot only showing you dead close to a mob is generally not enough evidence. So try to take as many screenshots as possible of the situation from the start to the finish.

Greeding / Loot Stealing

What constitutes as greeding/loot stealing?

After you've finished killing a mob or a single monster, if an individual approaches the loot and takes any of it without your consent. That is loot stealing.

    • Upon death or exiting the area nearby the loot, loot loses ownership!** Meaning if you die during mobbing, after it, port away or anything that would make it impossible for you to gather the loot, the loot becomes free for all. It naturally belongs to your party members if they're in the vicinity of the loot. But if they're not in the visible range of the loot then it's just free for all. Loot doesn't retain ownership after death or warping away.

Oh and one more thing, if a monster drops a card/equip/something else valuable and you're dead, we won't recover it. So please do stop sending tickets about recovering items that you can't obtain due to dying.

And again, if someone loots you, first thing to do is to tell them that you're going to report them. People do this by accident if they don't notice you there. If someone apologizes then again; forgive and forget.

What evidence do we need?

  1. Screenshots clearly proving your ownership of the loot. Basically we need to be sure that the loot belonged to you to begin with, best way to do this is to grab a screenshot of you with the loot if you see someone suspicious approaching. If you can't then a screenshot showing the greeding/looting act only may suffice depending on GM decision.
  2. Screenshots clearly showing the greeding/looting act. Pretty simple, grab screenshots of the perpetrator when he's looting.
  3. Screenshots clearly showing the name of the perpetrator. Again, this is important!
  4. Screenshots showing you telling the person that you're going to report them for looting. This isn't always possible since looters often flywing away right after the act. But if possible always inform the perpetrator that you're reporting them. This way it'll be clear that the act was deliberate.

Skill Spamming

What constitutes as skill spamming?

Person continually using certain skills in cities just for the lulz. Think of things like Magnus Excorcimus, Storm Gust, Lord Of Vermillion, Meteor shower, Ice Wall and so on. It should really be pretty obvious when you see it. Though do note the part where I said "continually using skills". This means that someone using a skill a few times doesn't really count as spamming.

What evidence do we need?

  1. Screenshots clearly showing the perpetrator spamming the skill(s)
  2. Screenshots clearly showing the perpetrators name
  3. Screenshots showing that the perpetrator was informed that skill spamming in cities is a punishable offense and that they will be reported if they don't stop.

Harrassment, Racism, etc.

What constitutes as harassment?

Harassment is a bit tricky to define actually, since people get offended by a myriad of different things. There are also a lot of things that are looked at in harassment reports. So first of all I'll explain a bit as to what we consider harassment; //Continuous act of insulting/offending/annoying/similarly harassing an individual in such a way that it either requires GM interaction to stop or the individual is so offended that the perpetrator deserves to be punished.//

Now this can occur everywhere, Public chat, PvP rooms, !main, forums and so on. Though do remember that we can only intervene if it goes on in anything related to TalonRO. Meaning even if some player starts bugging you in Facebook, there's nothing we can do about it and you should report him to Facebook instead.

Now few things to keep in mind:

  1. This really needs to be continuous! Someone sending you few profanities and/or insults doesn't constitute as harassment unless said insults are extremely serious and/or offending.
  2. Don't provoke anyone and don't get provoked. Seriously, remain calm! Don't get pissed off by their insults, don't start to insult them back, don't use caps, don't start to yell and so on. Stay calm, remain civilized and so on. If you start to shout profanities and insults to the perpetrator, then there's a chance that both of you get muted for being idiots.
  3. PLEASE MAKE AN EFFORT TO GET OUT OF THE SITUATION YOURSELF BEFORE REPORTING ANYTHING! This is something a lot of people don't do and it really should be obvious. If you're arguing with someone and said person starts offending you, clearly inform them that you are offended and that you would like them to stop offending you and/or PM'ing you. This is something you absolutely **SHOULD** do. If you don't do so we may reject your report, depending on the case.
  4. USE /EX!!!!! I'm not exactly sure how many players are aware of the existence of this command, because it seems that not a lot are. What /ex does is block PM's from a certain person. i.e writing "/ex GM Seiren" will block all PM's from GM Seiren. This is an ideal way to get rid of someone harassing you via PM's. Just /ex them. If the person is just being annoying I'd highly suggest simply /ex'ing them rather than submitting a whole report.

Note that a lot about harassment reports rest on GM's views of the situation and what they consider harassment. So even if you consider something harassment the GM may not, in which case don't start raging at the GM's. That's just dumb. If you want to ague your case further do it in a civilized matter.

What evidence do we need?

  1. Screenshots clearly depicting the harassment happening in the game/forums. Best idea is to make your chatbox pretty big and then just scroll through it and take screenshots.
  2. Screenshots of you clearly telling the perpetrator that you want them to stop.

Other Notes about Reporting & Rules

Now then, few final things to mention:

  • Of course when writing a report try to use proper and good English. It's well aware that there are a lot of non English players here, but it's simply easier for GMs to read in English that can be understood rather than rely on Google translate or something.
  • If it's a long story of a scam report, harassment or something. Use paragraphs. Reading a massive wall of text is tiring and difficult. Basically just press Enter twice every now and then when the things you're talking about change a bit.
  • As mentioned in the harassment part, a lot depends on the GM's view of the situation. While this is especially true for harassment cases it also applies to everything else. GM's are people, granted we're awesome people, but we're still people. We disagree with each other, we might not see what you see in the screenshots and so on. Don't think that we're being biased, we're not. We're simply interpreting the situation based on our own views.
  • Also these are just guidelines and instructions, none of the stuff said here are rules, or things set in stone, so nitpicking about some loopholes you find here or other minuscule things is pointless. If you feel that you should report someone then report them regardless of how much of the criteria above is fulfilled or not. However also be prepared that we might not punish said person. These are simply providing some guidelines as to what to provide in the reports to ensure the perpetrator gets punished. On the other hand, we may also punish people even if none of the things defined on these guidelines is fulfilled. We have our own ways to acquire proof as well, so don't forget that.
  • If you do not agree with a punishment we have given out, please contact a different GM about it in a civil way. This can be through forum PM or through a Support Ticket. Do not go flaming the GMs because you think you have been wronged. A punishment is usually the decision of one GM. Asking another GM for a second opinion can never hurt as long as you do it in a civil way.
